Public speaking is an essential skill. Many professions require it. In others, individuals with good public speaking skills have greater access to promotions and opportunities than their peers without. Even so, psychologists say that public speaking is more feared than death itself.
This public speaking class helps eliminate that fear! Students have the opportunity to speak in front of the class daily. Regular practice makes public speaking much less daunting. Experience builds confidence. Also, we will discuss the challenges of public speaking; what makes it so intimidating?
Class activities and materials include reading about current events issues and discussing/debating them in class. We will cover how to use pronunciation and inflection properly to convey emphasis and increase the impact of speech. We cover basic public speaking skills like eye-contact, posture, volume, etc.; all of which still require practice to refine. We will spend time learning to write, organize, and revise speeches logically. The course will touch upon how to build rapport with audiences and keep speeches engaging.
Homework will be assigned, including prepared and impromptu speeches. The class is conducted in English. Students will also have their pronunciation and English grammar corrected.
